Origen de la canción
El 2 de agosto de 1935 se estrenó en Estados Unidos la película Every Night at Eight (A las ocho en punto), producida por Paramount Pictures, dirigida por Raoul Walsh e interpretada en sus principales papeles por George Raft, Alice Faye, Frances Langford y Patsy Kelly. En ella, Frances Langford cantaba “I’m in the Mood For Love”. De las seis canciones que McHugh y Fields compusieron para esta película, “I’m in the Mood for Love” y “I Feel a Song Comin’ On” fueron las que obtuvieron mayor éxito.
Every Night at Eight fue prácticamente la última vez que colaboraron Dorothy Fields y Jimmy McHugh. En ese mismo año, la pareja escribió una canción más, "Lovely to Look At", que se utilizó en la versión cinematográfica del musical de Broadway Roberta.
Tras su separación artística, McHugh compuso, entre otras, "You´re a Sweetheart" (1937), "Where Are You?" (1937), "Couldn´t Sleep a Wink Last Night" (1943),
"A Lovely Way to Spend an Evening" (1943), "Comin´ In on a Wing and Prayer" (1943), "It´s a Most Unusual Day" (1948) y "Too Young to Go Steady" (1955).
