On 8 November 1928 the musical comedy Treasure Girl was released in the Alvin Theatre of New York, which was performed sixty eight times. The libretto was Fred Thompson’s and Vincent Lawrence’s, the music, George Gershwin’s, and the lyrics, Ira Gershwin’s. Bertram Harrison was the stage management director, Alfred Newman, the music director, and Bobby Connolly, the choreographer. The leading artists were Gertrude Lawrence, Walter Cartlett, Clifton Webb, Paul Frawley, and Mary Hay. In the first act, Mary Hay and Clifton Webb sang ‘I’ve Got A Crush On You’.
On 14 January 1930 the musical comedy Strike Up The Band was released in the Times Square Theatre of New York, which was performed a hundred and ninety times. The libretto was by Morrie Ryskind, based on one by George S. Kaufman, the music, by George Gershwin, and the lyrics, by Ira Gershwin. Alexander Leftwich directed the stage management, Hilding Anderson, the music, and George Hale, the choreography. The cast included a Bobby Clark, Paul McCullough, Blanche Ring, Dudley Clements, Gordon Smith, Kathryn Hamill, Helen Gilligan, Doris Carson, and Jerry Goff. In the second act, Doris Carson and Gordon Smith sang ‘I’ve Got A Crush On You’.
This is the only song that Gershwin used in two different musicals.
