Origin of the song

Isham Jones was a prolific composer and performer. Between 1920 and 1938, seventy-three songs sung by his orchestra were on the charts, and eight of them made it to number one.

On 3 February 1936, Isham Jones recorded 'There Is No Greater Love', which was released as B side of 'Life Begins When You're in Love', the latter belonging to the film The Music Goes 'Round. The lead singer was Woody Herman and the album was a rare success. A few months later, Jones retired to devote himself to composing and handed over the direction of the band to Woody Herman, who began a career as an orchestra leader that would last more than fifty years.

Other well known compositions by Isham Jones include 'On the Alamo' (1922), 'Broken Hearted Melody' (1922), 'Swingin' Down the Lane' (1923), 'Indiana Moon' (1923), 'I'll See You in My Dreams' (1924), 'The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else' (1924), 'It Had to Be You' (1924), 'Indiana Moon' y 'You’ve Got Me Crying Again' (1933).

In addition to 'There Is No Greater Love', songwriter Marty Symes is the author of 'Under a Blanket of Blue' (1933) and 'It's the Talk of the Town' (1933).
